Furthur Festival: Initial Lineup

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on this one, but better late than never. The initial lineup has been announced for the inaugural Furthur Festival @ Mountain Aire which will take place May 28-30 at Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp, CA. Also, the band is now down to one drummer, Sir Joe Russo as Jay Lane has returned to Primus. Don't worry folks, Russo is more than capable of handling things all by himself. I personally always preferred the Grateful Dead with only Billy behind the skins anyways.

Here is the initial lineup
Furthur (headling two nights)
Electric Hot Tuna
Jackie Greene
Galactic
Larry Campbell & Theresa Williams
Mark Karan & Jemimah Puddleduck
The Mother Hips
The Waybacks
Common Rotation with Dan Bern
Carney
Maiden Lane
Blue Light River

Camping opens at noon on Friday, May 28. Weekend tickets include camping. GDTSTOO mail order 3/20-3/25 (first postmark 3/20). Online preorder 3/22, 9 AM, PST. Public onsale is 3/26, 10 AM, PST, through Ticketmaster.

The Allman Brothers New March Home

It seems that virtually every March the legendary blues-rock band The Allman Brothers have taken a nice and lengthy residency at one of NYC finest concert venues, the Beacon Theater. Not all traditions last however, and seeing as how Cirque du Soleil's new show "Banana Shpeel" will be housed at the Beacon, the Allmans were forced to find a new home for their annual March run. After much deliberation, the group ultimately settled on the controversial United Palace, which is infamous for its echoey acoustics. To this fact, Gregg Allman stated “with our sound system, we’ll make our own damn acoustics.” That being said, the band will likely return to the Beacon in 2011, and we all know just how good they sound in that joint.
Here's a nice video of the Allmans playing the Dead's "Sugaree" with Phil Lesh and Bob Weir

The Dead Perform on the View

This morning Phil, Bobby and Warren played a short but sweet rendition of "Friend of the Devil" on The View in New York City. Phil's singing sounds great on this (first time in a long time) and Bobby even throws in a nice little rhythmic solo. Personally, I like Warren playing acoustic leads much more so than his electric ones. His style feels more appropriate on acoustic Dead songs. The boys will be playing 3 shows in New York City before embarking on a huge tour of the States. It's sure to be hot!
Here's the video:

The Dead Tour '09

In light of the Phish reunion tour that is coming in 2009, I think it's only fitting that I report on their predecessors. Rumours of a Dead tour have been circulating since their one shot reunion for Obama and many think they will be playing either Bonnaroo or Rothbury. Although information on a possible tour is limited, a video was released by the band and boy do they look like they're having a good time. Check it out
